Description
Here is my artwork example for the Emphasis Unit, students were asked to create a 9x12" graphite drawing, emphasizing one component in colored pencil. As well as my artist statement attached.

Rationale

After this unit students can successfully express themselves through drawing and shading using graphite pencil, as well as discuss artists with their peers, and write an artist statement.

211 UNIT PLAN
IPTS (2013) - STANDARD 1 - Teaching Diverse Students - The competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student and how individuals develop and learn within the context of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences. The teacher uses these experiences to create instructional opportunities that maximize student learning.

Description

In this unit I am teaching the students about emphasis, there are many ways to emphasize your piece, but for this unit we focused on emphasizing using color. I spoke about some photographers that do the same thing with their photographs. Students were asked to create a 9x12" graphite drawing using a photograph of their choice, but one piece of the drawing has to be emphasized using colored pencil.

Rationale

Students used drawing techniques learned at the beginning of the semester for this project. This unit is student based, they were able to pick whatever they wanted to draw, sports, flowers, animals, etc.

211 STUDIO ASSIGNMENT ASSESSMENT
IPTS (2013) -STANDARD 7 - Assessment - The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessment for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.

Description
For the formative assessment I did a pre vocab quiz. Per request of my CT, the students take a vocab quiz before each of there new units. This gives the teacher an idea of what the students know, in the summative assessment (rubric) I am assessing things such as progress on student work, techniques being used, and their artist statement.

Rationale
Throughout the unit, students were asked to take photographs throughout the process of their work. This helps the students and I visualize how they work and where their strong points are. Assessing vocab before the unit allows the students to know what to expect, as well as informing the teacher all that the students know.

ARTIST HANDOUT AND POWER POINT
IPTS (2013) STANDARD 6 -Reading, Writing, and Oral Communication - The competent teacher has foundational knowledge of reading, writing, and oral communication within the content area and recognizes and addresses student reading, writing, and oral communication needs to facilitate the acquisition of content knowledge.

Description

My artist handout contains work from photographer, Bob Witkowski. As well as questions regarding his work and why he does what he does. The handout focuses on Witkowski's upbringing, his work, and the vocabulary surrounding the unit.

Rationale

For each photograph covered taken by Witowski, we covered each frame: structural, conceptual, cultural, and postmodern. This helps students better understand why we are talking about this artist and how it relates to their project.
